Jackie Gaughan wins third straight D1 title in N.H.

While Jackie Gaughan didn't break her course record set last fall, the performance by the Exeter senior Saturday at the New Hampshire Cross Country Divisional Championships still made history. 

Gaughan won her third straight Division 1 crown in 17 minutes, 41.7 seconds at Derryfield Park in Manchester. Her time was more than a minute faster than second place. 

According to reports from seacoastonline.com, through her coach Joe Scascitelli, Gaughan has verbally committed to run for the University of Notre Dame. 

With her third straight title, Gaughan joins Dover NH graduate and former Olympian Cathy Schiro O'Brien as the only large-school female runner to win three titles or more. 

"I just wanted to get a good effort in," Gaugahn told seacoastonline.com. "Run my best race. It's my last year here, try my best and just try and go for the win."

Pinkerton's girls scored 49 points to win.

In the boys Division 1 race, Concord junior Forest MacKenzie led his team to a title as he won in 16:12.2.  

Julia Robitaille of Manchester West ran way from the Division 2 field to win in 17:52.5. Souhegan won the team title. For the boys, senior Evan Tanguay of Coe-Brown clocked 16:19.6. Oyster River scored 51 points to win as a team.

In Division 3, sophomore Mya Dubie of Kearsarge Regional ran 19:59.3 and Campbell scored 74 points to win the girls crown. For the boys, Jeffrey Allen of Campbell finished in 16:28.7 to win. Mascenic Regional claimed the team title.
